Patients encouraged to buy over the counter medicines

Our local commissioning group (B&NES CCG) which funds local healthcare, has written to all local GP practices this week. They are asking us not to do prescriptions for over the counter medicines, for patients who have minor, short term conditions. B&NES CCG is facing severe financial pressures and has been asked to find £6.2 million in savings this financial year. It is hoped by encouraging patients to buy these over the counter medications approximately £600,000 can be saved. Please see the following leaflet for more details:
