PSA testing

Nationally GPs have seen a surge in requests for PSA blood tests following the recent media coverage of celebrities affected by prostate cancer. We are also experiencing this ourselves at the surgery and so thought it would be helpful to provide some information for people concerned about this matter.

There has been no change in the UK National Screening Committee guidance (they do not recommend testing in men with no symptoms) but individuals may discuss the pros and cons of a PSA test with their GP.
