First Contact Practitioner

First Contact Physiotherapists (FCPs) are advanced practitioners working within GP practices with extensive expertise in the clinical assessment, diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. MSK conditions include recent injuries to bones, muscles and joints, but also longer term conditions like low back pain, neck pain and arthritis.

FCPs see patients with (suspected or diagnosed) MSK conditions as the first point of contact, instead of a GP, and can be accessed directly by contacting the practice’s reception.

We offer basic travel vaccinations.

Please check 2-3 months before you are due to travel what vaccinations you require from to check the countries you are visiting.

You can obtain a copy of your vaccination record from our reception team as a print out at either Keynsham or Saltford.

If you require any further vaccinations please make an appointment with one of our practice nurses.

Chew Valley and Keynsham Befrienders

We are a small voluntary organisation operating in parts of North Somerset and Bath & North East Somerset (Chew Valley and Keynsham in particular). We support individuals and their families, who have mental health problems or are experiencing mental distress. Sometimes staying in your own home becomes too difficult. This may be because of the medical treatment you need or because you cannot complete day-to-day tasks. You may be wondering whether you need to move into a care home.


Active Ageing Service

The Active Ageing service is provided by Health Visitors. The team aim to enable older people to continue to be independent in their own homes and to promote quality of life by improving health and reducing inequalities, with a focus on social, emotional and physical health.

Screening Programmes

Abdominal Aortic Aneurism Screening (AAA)

The NHS invites men for AAA screening during the year they turn 65. If you are over 65 and have not been screened previously, you can arrange a screening appointment by contacting your local programme directly.

Screening involves an ultrasound scan that takes around 10 minutes.

Bowel Cancer Screening

The NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme offers screening every two years to all men and women aged 60 to 69. This age range is currently being extended to 60 to 74. People in the invitation age range are automatically sent an invitation, then their screening kit, so they can do the test at home.

After your first screening test, you will be sent another invitation and screening kit every two years until you reach 69 (74 in areas where age extension has already started). If you are over the invitation age range, you can ask for a screening kit every two years by calling 0800 707 6060. – Bowel Cancer Screening programme

Breast Cancer Screening

Breast screening (mammography) is an x-ray examination of the breasts which can show small changes in the breast before there are any other signs or symptoms.

All women aged between 50 and 70 are automatically invited for breast screening every three years. Women are invited via their doctors’ practices in turn so they will not necessarily get their invitation in the year that they turn 50.

Cervical Smears

All women aged between 25 and 64 are invited for cervical screening. Women aged between 25 and 49 are invited for testing every three years, and women aged between 50 and 64 are invited every five years. You will receive an invitation to attend from the Health Authority.

Cervical smear tests are carried out by the Practice Nurses at our surgery. The best time to have the test done is in the middle of your cycle. Call the surgery appointments line and ask to book an appointment for a smear test with the nurse.  The results of your test will be sent to you by post.

There is no organised screening programme for prostate cancer but an informed choice programme, Prostate Cancer Risk Management has been introduced. If you are worried about a specific problem or otherwise worried about the risks of cancer, then you should make an appointment to see your doctor. – Prostate cancer risk management programme
